Tipra Motha moves Tripura HC for immediate poll of village council elections

The election for the village council has been postponed by a period of two years, even though the High Court had directed that the election be held in the first week of November last year.

Tipra Motha has already approached the High Court in relation to this issue. On Wednesday, MLA Brishaketu Debbarma and lawyer Antony Debbarma submitted a petition to the High Court concerning the village council elections.

The case was heard by the high court’s division bench on the same day. Antony Debbarma informed the court that 2 PILs had previously filed about the village council election.

He also informed that the order of the High Court to hold elections in the first week of November 2022 was not implemented.
Antony Debbarma further said, “A case of contempt of court has been filed. Although the state has already held assembly elections, no notification has been released with regards to the village council elections”.
