The strike is being organized for hike in monthly stipends as the internees of Tripura Medical college (TMC) draw only Rs 12.5 thousand as stipends even as internees of AGMC are given Rs 18 thousand per month. Despite repeated demands the internees have not been able to elicit their demand for higher stipends as par with AGMC.
In a circular issued earlier, the principal of Tripura Medical college TMC Professor Asiruddin Ahmed has urged upon the senior doctors, junior and senior residents and all other staff to maintain the service level in the college as well as in the Dr BRAM hospital in public interest. Those pursuing post-graduate studies have also been instructed to lend extra helping hand to the hospital authority to maintain the service level. In the year 2016 also the TMC internees had to go on strike demand for a hike.
