Agartala, June 28: Just hours after BJP’s internal poll in-charge K. Laxman announced the schedule for electing a new president of the Tripura BJP unit, the process was unexpectedly put on hold.
Initially, the party had issued a schedule for a state-wide organisational poll, with the results scheduled to be declared on June 29. However, following a late evening phone call from BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh, the election was stalled.
Subsequently, Returning Officer Samarendra Deb issued a fresh notice officially putting the polls on hold until further instructions from the central leadership.
Party sources indicate that differences over candidate selection triggered the sudden decision, though no official statement was made regarding the reason for the postponement.
