CITU held a protest rally in Agartala from the CITU Tripura Headquarters on Wednesday, demanding the cancellation of a Rs 10 lakh fine for drivers on hit-and-run law and reduction in transport insurance charges.
They also demanded revocation of a BJP government law imposing jail terms on transport workers for accidents.
The rally gone through various routes of Agartala city.
CITU Tripura State President Manik Dey expressed concerns about the impact on workers, stating that accidents occur for various reasons, including road maintenance issues, leading to attacks on drivers trying to help the injured.
He further said, “Under these circumstances, the proposed government law is deemed perilous and monstrous. The government’s decision is deemed unacceptable, triggering nationwide protests among transport workers.”
Manik Dey emphasized the immediate need for the repeal of such a law.
