Tripura CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition on Sunday demanded that the state government constitute a high-level investigation team to probe the alleged induced suicide of BJP councillor and North Tripura district president of the party’s youth wing, Rahul Kishore Roy.
Chaudhury stressed the seriousness of the allegations raised by the deceased’s wife, Ananya Bhattacharjee, who accused newly elected Dharmanagar bypoll MLA and his wife, Barnali Goswami, former chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, of being involved in an attack on their residence shortly after the bypoll results were declared on May 4.
Calling the incident “extremely painful and heart-wrenching,” Chaudhury said the matter must be investigated thoroughly by a high-level team in accordance with the purported directives of Chief Minister . He also highlighted the young age of the deceased, terming the incident deeply unfortunate.
On the same day, Chaudhury, along with other CPI(M) leaders, visited the residence of party leader Tapan Das in Jirania, who was allegedly attacked by local BJP workers. He claimed that despite informing the Jirania police about the incident, no action had been taken so far.
The CPI(M) leader urged the Chief Minister to uphold his assurances of maintaining zero tolerance towards political violence and anti-social activities in the state.
