Tripura enters a new era of rail connectivity as CM Dr. Manik Saha flags off the first electric MEMU train service between Agartala and Karimganj

Agartala, July 4: Marking a significant milestone in railway connectivity, electric train services commenced from Agartala Railway Station on Saturday with the launch of the first electric MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train service connecting Agartala and Karimganj in Assam.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha flagged off the Agartala–Karimganj MEMU train at a function held at Agartala Railway Station. The newly introduced train, with a passenger capacity of 3,600, is the first electric MEMU service to be introduced in the North Eastern region under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The Agartala–Karimganj MEMU service (Train Nos. 75679/75680) will operate six days a week, remaining off on Sundays. Regular commercial operations of the train will begin from Monday, July 6.

The eco-friendly electric MEMU train is equipped with 12 stainless steel coaches and several modern passenger amenities, including LED lighting, bio-toilets, GPS-based passenger information system with announcements of upcoming stations and platform details, a public address system, CCTV surveillance, and other advanced facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the launch of the electric MEMU service would strengthen rail connectivity, provide a comfortable and environmentally friendly mode of transport, and benefit thousands of passengers travelling between Tripura and Assam.
