A large group of people, reportedly TIPRA Motha supporters, started an agitation targeting BJP minister Rampada Jamatia on Friday.
The Minister went to a programme at Darogamura School in Simna in West Tripura district.
It was the second incident within 48 hours that was targeted in the Janajati leader and BJP Minister Rampada Jamatia after Jampuijala incident on Thursday.
The protestors even scuffled with the policemen during the incident for which police were forced to fire tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mohanpur Kamal Majumder said that a health and administrative camp was organised at Darogamura School in Simna constituency.
A senior police officer said the minister was en route to an administrative camp at Darogamura High School in Mohanpur when a group of protesters tried to halt his car. “The minister managed to evade the protest and reached the venue of the public event. However, a section of the protesters reached the venue and created a ruckus. Since most of them were women, the police personnel on duty showed restraint and dispersed the mob by firing two rounds of tear gas shells. No one was injured in the incident.
As soon as the Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia reached the spot, a large group started agitation.
He added that deployment of sufficient security personnel helped in managing the situation.
Although the situation was highly tense, it came under control. SDPO further said that a policeman and two others were injured during stone pelting by the agitators.
Therefore, police had fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Patal Kanya Jamatia the BJP Vice President held Tipra Motha responsible for the incident. She said that it is the culture and objective of TIPRA Motha to disrupt peaceful programmes.
The protestors had raised the ‘Patal Kanya go back’ slogan although she was not present in the programme. While responding to reporter, Patal Kanya Jamatia said the TIPRA Motha’s agenda is just to target her, her presence or absence does not matter.
She added TIPRA Motha supporters are unable unable to stop BJP’s rise in the TTAADC areas for which the strategy is taken.
A similar attack was done by the alleged TIPRA Motha upon the BJP minister and the party’s state vice-president at Jampuijala on Thursday.
