Agartala, May 4: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday conducted a comprehensive review of the recently launched Rah-Veer Scheme — a nationwide initiative aimed at saving lives during road accidents by encouraging timely intervention from the public. The scheme, which was introduced last month, is a part of the Government of India’s broader push towards enhancing road safety and public welfare.
Addressing the media after the review meeting, Minister Chowdhury described the Rah-Veer Scheme as a groundbreaking and humane initiative designed to motivate citizens to assist road accident victims during the critical “Golden Hour” — the first hour following an accident, when prompt medical attention can be the difference between life and death.
He informed that under this scheme, any individual who transports an accident victim to a hospital within the Golden Hour and provides essential first aid will be eligible for a cash reward of Rs 25,000 along with a certificate of recognition from the government.
“In cases where multiple Rah-Veers come forward to help a single accident victim, the Rs 25,000 reward will be shared equally among all the helpers. Furthermore, at least ten exemplary Rah-Veers will be selected each year at the national level and honoured with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for their outstanding contributions in saving lives,” Chowdhury said.
He added that an individual Rah-Veer may receive the reward up to five times within a year for their acts of courage and humanity.
