It is alleged that Former Awami League lawmaker and noted physician Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta has reportedly been teaching at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital in India after remaining out of public view since the July 2024 uprising in Bangladesh. This video is viral in the social media in India and as well as in Bangladesh and till date no press confirmation has been given by the College Authorities.
A video uploaded to the institution’s official YouTube channel on 24 June 2026 shows Dr Datta conducting a class at the medical college, suggesting that he is currently based in India.
Earlier, on 5 February 2026, news outlet Northeast Today reported that India’s National Medical Commission had granted Dr Datta temporary permission to practise at the institution.
Dr Datta, a former member of parliament representing Cumilla-7, went into hiding following the collapse of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024. Since then, multiple cases have reportedly been filed against him in Bangladesh.
Although his whereabouts had remained unknown for several months, the recently published video provides the clearest indication so far that he is now working in India.
