Ambassa, December 26:
Based on specific intelligence inputs, police from Ambassa Police Station intercepted a motorcycle at Betbagan Naka point on Thursday and seized a large quantity of marijuana, leading to the arrest of a youth.
According to police sources, information was received that a young man was travelling from the Mungiakami area towards Ambassa railway station carrying contraband on a motorcycle.
Acting on the tip-off, police set up a checkpoint at Betbagan Naka.
When a motorcycle reached the naka point, police signalled the rider to stop. However, the rider attempted to flee and lost control of the vehicle, falling on the road. He was immediately apprehended by the police.
The accused has been identified as Tanujit Debbarma. During a search, police recovered nine packets of marijuana from his bag. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth more than ₹2 lakh in the illegal market.
A case has been registered against the arrested youth under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said that the accused will be produced before the court on Friday with a prayer for remand.
