Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and NorthEast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma held an hour-long meeting with the TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday in Agartala.
The meeting was held at the state guest house shortly after the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP government.
After the meeting, Pradyot said the Home Minister has started the process for a constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura.
He added that an interlocutor will be appointed for this process within a specific timeframe.
Pradyot Kishore thanked the Home Minister for understanding the problems of the indigenous people of Tripura.
He added, “Issues such as alliance and cabinet were never discussed only the interest of our dopha was discussed”.
On the other hand, BJP NE coordinator Sambit Patra said, “We had a meeting with TIPRA Motha leaders including Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma”.
He said that a comprehensive discussion was held in the meeting on the development of tribal people in Tripura.
Sambit Patra added that discussions were made in the meeting to solve problems of indigenous people and give them more respect and dignity.
He further added that Chief Minister Dr Saha assured to carry out a series of talks with the regional political parties and various NGOs to find a feasible solution to the issue.
Sambit claimed that demands of TIPRA Motha were not discussed in the meeting.
He said, “TIPRA Motha did not raise any demand and we had no discussion on any demand. Even talks on the alliance were also not discussed. It was a general talk on the tribal welfare”.
