1 tonne of cannabis has been seized by Assam police from a truck from the Churaibari border area on Saturday afternoon.

Officials of Churaibari Watch Post led by Niranjan Das recovered one tonne of cannabis in 50 packets in a 6-wheeler truck.

Watch Post’s Police in-charge Niranjan Das said that the market value of seized cannabis is estimated at around 1 crore rupees.

A case has been registered under the sections of the NDPS Act.

According to the preliminary interrogation, the arrested driver, a resident of the Sukantanagar area under Kumarghat police station admitted that he collected the cannabis from Jirania.
