In the wake of heightened security concerns, Civil Defence authorities carried out extensive mock drills across Tripura and other Northeastern states, alongside several state capitals throughout India.
These exercises followed the recent success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ — a military operation by India’s Armed Forces targeting terrorist camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the drills as part of reinforced security measures following the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, predominantly tourists.
A total of 52 districts across eight Northeastern states participated in the mock drills. Assam led with exercises in 15 districts, followed by Nagaland with 10, Tripura with eight, Meghalaya with seven, and Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur with five each. Additionally, one district each in Mizoram and Sikkim conducted the preparedness drills.
The coordinated exercises aimed to strengthen emergency response capabilities and ensure readiness against potential security threats in the region.
