Dhaka: Bangladesh’s interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has confirmed that the country’s general elections will be held in the early months of next year.
Yunus made the announcement during a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday. The two leaders discussed Bangladesh’s ongoing political reforms, the democratic transition process, preparations for the upcoming elections, and international aid for Rohingya refugees.
The Chief Adviser assured that the ongoing dialogue between the interim government and political parties is expected to bring vital reforms to the nation’s political structure. He also sought continued support from the United States for Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
