Farmers should be encouraged to cultivate millets: Agriculture Minister

Cultivation of millet is very profitable and it is an excellent food. Millets are also highly nutritious. There is also a demand for it in the market. Farmers of our state are generally more enthusiastic about paddy, wheat and vegetable cultivation. Farmers should be encouraged to cultivate millet considering its nutritional value.

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said this while addressing a national level seminar cycle titled “Use of millet production technology for climate resilience and agricultural sustainable development-2023” at College of Agriculture in Lembucherra on 29th April, 2023. Speaking at the seminar, the Agriculture Minister said that many types of food items are made from millet. Biscuits, multi-grain flour and sweets are also made from millet.

The Agriculture Minister said that the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will take initiatives to popularize millet cultivation in the state in the coming days. This National Seminar was organized under the initiative of College of Agriculture, Tripura in collaboration with NABARD and ICR, Hyderabad

The Agriculture Minister said, we have to be self-reliant in agriculture. Farmers should be made accustomed to the production of various food items required for this. Only if agriculture develops, Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat and Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura will become reality. The Agriculture Minister thanked the entrepreneurs for organizing such a National Level Seminar in the state 20 agricultural scientists from different states of the country participated in this National Seminar. In the Seminar, Agricultural Scientists gave valuable speech on cultivation.

Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain, General Manager of NABARD Loken Das, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Sharadindu Das spoke in the seminar Principal of College of Agriculture, Tripura Dr. TK Maiti gave the welcome address on the occasion. The guests unveiled two Souvenir published on the occasion
