Agartala, July 9: Panic spread in Agartala after a woman was allegedly robbed of her gold chain in broad daylight by two motorcycle-borne miscreants, raising fresh concerns over public safety in the city.

The victim, identified as Nita Bhowmik, was reportedly travelling from Bank Chowmuhani towards Panchmukh when the incident took place. According to reports, two youths had been monitoring her movements before suddenly approaching her and snatching the gold chain from her neck. The accused fled the spot immediately after committing the crime.

The incident triggered a commotion in the area. Following a complaint, personnel from Amtali Police Station reached the spot and initiated an investigation.

Police sources said that CCTV footage collected from the area has captured images of two suspected robbers. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused based on the footage.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who alleged that incidents of theft and robbery have increased in different parts of the city in recent times. They demanded stricter policing and stronger security measures, particularly in busy public areas, to ensure the safety of citizens.

Officials of Amtali Police Station said the case is being treated with utmost seriousness and assured that all possible efforts are being made to trace the culprits at the earliest.

The incident has left not only the victim’s family but also local residents worried over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
