A comprehensive roadmap is being prepared to ensure the faster and more effective
delivery of Central and State Government welfare schemes to Scheduled Caste (SC)
communities across Tripura, said SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das while addressing
a state-level review meeting of the SC Welfare Department at Sonar Tori State Guest
House today.
The Minister emphasized that officials and staff of the SC Welfare Department, along with
other concerned departments, must play a proactive role in ensuring the overall welfare
of Scheduled Caste communities and students. He stated that the Government is
committed to streamlining the implementation of welfare schemes so that eligible
beneficiaries can receive maximum benefits in a timely manner. The review meeting was
attended by SC Welfare Department Secretary Deepa D. Nair, Director-in-Charge
Bhaswar Bhattacharya, Deputy Director Pradip Reang, District Welfare Officers, SubDivisional Welfare Officers, and officials from the Education, Rural Development, and
Public Works Departments.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister said that the review was aimed at assessing the
implementation and outcomes of various schemes during the previous financial year and
identifying areas requiring further attention. He noted that 34 Scheduled Caste
communities reside in the State and reiterated the Government’s commitment to their
socio-economic development, educational advancement, and self-employment
opportunities. The Minister reviewed the progress of several key schemes, including the
Prime Minister Adarsh Gram Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana
(PM-AJAY), Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash Yojana, various scholarship
programmes, the Nucleus Budget, and the status of boys’ and girls’ hostels. He also
suggested organizing district-level workshops on the Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash
Yojana to enhance awareness and implementation across the State.
During the meeting, Secretary Deepa D. Nair highlighted various Central and State
Government initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and development of Scheduled
Caste communities. The proceedings began with a PowerPoint presentation by Directorin-Charge Bhaswar Bhattacharjee, who presented the achievements of the Department
during the 2025–26 financial year. According to the presentation, pre-matric scholarships
were awarded to 17,545 students studying in Classes VI to VIII, while 7,624 students of
Classes IX and X received scholarship assistance under the scheme. A total of 20,094
students from Class XI to university level benefited from Post-Matric Scholarships.

Under the financial assistance programme for students pursuing professional courses,
one-time financial support was extended to 575 students during 2025–26, while 354
students received assistance under the second installment of the scheme. The
Department also conferred the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Merit Award on 7,172
students and the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Special Merit Award on two students in
recognition of their academic achievements.


The Minister informed that under the Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash Yojana,
assistance was provided to 1,928 beneficiaries during 2025–26 for activities such as
poultry farming, duck rearing, and small business enterprises. Development initiatives
have also been undertaken for the Maharajganj Fish Market, Pecharthal Waterbody, and
Batasidepa Waterbody, with a total projected expenditure of ₹72.78 crore. Financial
assistance was provided to 27 families under the Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme.
Development works are currently in progress in 33 villages under the Pradhan Mantri
Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY). The construction of the Pabiachhara and
Rangamati SC Girls’ Hostels has been completed, and 119 teachers have been
appointed across 32 hostels to teach core academic subjects.
The Minister also highlighted the implementation of the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial
Hostel Scheme, skill development programmes for self-employment, and loan recovery
initiatives undertaken by the Tripura Scheduled Castes Cooperative Development
Corporation. Officials from the concerned departments also presented updates on the
progress and implementation status of various projects and schemes under their
respective departments during the review meeting.
