Unakoti, Tripura | January 12:
The tense situation that erupted in the Saydarpara–Shimultala area under Fatikray police station in Unakoti district following a rampage by miscreants has largely been brought under control.
To maintain law and order, a large contingent of police along with personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), CRPF, and Assam Rifles were deployed in the area. After prompt intervention by the administration and a mild lathi charge, normalcy was restored.
As a precautionary measure, Section 163 of the CrPC remained in force in the area on Sunday.
In the aftermath of the incident, the sub-divisional administration provided financial assistance to 11 affected families, distributing ₹5,000 to each family. The aid was handed over by DCM Shubankar Sen.
Reacting to the incident, Minister and local MLA Sudhanshu Das described the incident as unfortunate but strongly denied allegations of extortion or arson targeting members of the minority community.
He alleged that the Congress and CPI(M) were deliberately spreading misinformation to mislead the public. He further stated that the situation in Fatikray is now completely peaceful and that the police administration is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
