New Delhi: In a significant development following Bangladesh’s decision to withdraw from the T20 World Cup citing security concerns for its nationals in India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly denied travel permission and media accreditation to a large number of Bangladeshi journalists.
According to sources, the ICC has rejected accreditation applications of at least 130 to 150 Bangladeshi journalists who had applied to cover the tournament in India. Reports also suggest that accreditations already granted to some journalists were subsequently revoked.
Confirming the development, Amjad Hossain, Chairman of the Media Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), told leading Bangladeshi daily The Daily Star that none of the Bangladeshi journalists who applied for media accreditation received approval from the ICC.
He added that although a few Bangladeshi photojournalists were initially granted accreditation, their approvals were later cancelled after Bangladesh announced its withdrawal from the T20 World Cup.
