The sixth session of the 13th Assembly concluded with a heated discussion on the state of press freedom in Tripura. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a journalist-friendly environment.
Addressing the Assembly, the Chief Minister highlighted incidents involving Headlines Tripura and Dainik Sambad, questioning the press freedom under the previous Left regime. “Our government is dedicated to safeguarding journalists and ensuring their independence,” he remarked.
Opposition leaders, however, countered these claims, accusing the government of failing to curb rising threats and attacks on journalists. They argued that the media continues to face significant challenges due to inadequate protection measures.
