Agartala, Oct. 13: Left Front convener Manik Dey on Sunday alleged that the overall law and order situation in Tripura has deteriorated and that corruption and unrest are spreading across the state.
Addressing a press conference, Dey said the financial crisis has deepened to such an extent that there was little joy or enthusiasm among the people during this year’s Sharad festival. “In rural areas, many people could not celebrate the festival as they did not receive their pending wages under MGNREGA and TUEP before the puja,” he stated.
He further alleged that incidents of accidents and harassment of common people, especially women and children, are on the rise. “From money laundering in the Agartala Municipal Corporation to corruption in the ADC areas, corruption is spreading at an alarming rate,” Dey claimed.
The Left leader also accused the ruling party of vandalizing opposition offices and intensifying attacks on its workers. “Efforts are being made to incite communal tension to weaken the unity among various castes and tribes in the state,” he added.
The Left Front has demanded a thorough investigation into these incidents and urged the government to take appropriate action.
Dey also mentioned that he was allegedly prevented from attending a wedding ceremony in Jirania on Saturday, yet no action has been taken against the culprits so far. Condemning the incident, he called upon the Chief Minister and the Home Minister to identify those responsible and ensure justice.
