Our whole existence will be jeopardized if we cannot keep our environment pollution-free: CM

A cleanliness drive & tree plantation programme was organized to mark World Environment Day today at Maharajganj Bazar, Agartala. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha took part in the programme today. Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Corporators Ratna Dutta and Pintu Ranjan also took part in the same. Later while speaking to the media, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said, our whole existence will be jeopardized if we cannot keep our environment pollution-free. That is why, this year’s theme is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Different public awareness-based initiatives have been taken to prevent public from using plastics.

The Chief Minister also said, trees play an important role in building a pollution-free environment. Without trees, the environment will get polluted as well as the balance of our ecosystem will be damaged. That is why, it is everyone’s duty to take up the initiative to plant more trees.

If a tree is cut for any reason, another tree must be planted in place of that. The state government has been continuing tree plantation programme with utmost importance. The Chief Minister called on different social organizations to take forward role in this regard.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said, as roads will be polluted, similarly drains will be clogged if usage of plastic is not stopped, which is why the state government has emphasized upon using things made of jute and bamboo. The Chief Minister said, it will not suffice to simply talk about preventing usage of plastic but has to be practically followed. Public awareness also must be generated on harmful effects of using plastic besides enforcing law.
