New Delhi: A PIL has been filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India challenging the Union Ministry of Finance’s recent notifications relating to the imposition of merchant charges on certain commercial UPI transactions above ₹2,000.
The PIL was filed today by the Legal Adviser of Headlines Tripura National Mr Anjan Dutta , seeking directions to stay the implementation of the notifications and, ultimately, to quash them in the larger public interest.

on September 14, a Gazette notification came regarding the speculation that UPI charges would increase and the said Gazette notification from the government stating that some charges on UPI transactions would increase.
On September 15, the procedure for how it would be adopted and how it would come into operation was issued. A press release also came in the evening from the Finance Ministry on 15th September. Prayed for stay and finally quashing of these notifications in the Public Interest.,
