Skill Development Training for LMV Driving to Begin Under CMTDM

In a significant move towards empowering tribal youth through skill development, the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, is set to commence a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Driving Training Programme under the Chief Minister’s Tribal Development Mission (CMTDM) for the financial year 2025-26.

As part of the initiative, a total of 39 eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates-including 38 males and 1 female have been approved for sponsorship. The training will be conducted at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) under the aegis of the Transport Department, Government of Tripura.

Although the target was initially fixed at 40 candidates, the Directorate received 44 applications from interested ST youth, indicating an encouraging response to the programme. Based on recent communication from the Transport Commissioner, the LMV driving training is scheduled to be held from 20th to 23rd August 2025.

This initiative aims to enhance employability among tribal youth by equipping them with professional driving skills, thereby opening up livelihood opportunities in both private and government sectors.

The Tribal Welfare Department reaffirms its commitment to inclusive development and continues to prioritize capacity-building programmes that support self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods among Tripura’s tribal communities. This information has been provided by the Tribal Welfare Department.
