Tripura’s political tensions have once again spilled over into the media space. This time, Tipra Motha, one of the state’s prominent political organizations, has openly targeted a well-known independent media outlet, Headline Tripura. The youth wing of Tipra Motha recently held a press conference using strong language against the channel calls it as communal.
During the press conference, leaders of the youth organization alleged that Headline Tripura operates as a “communal channel,” accusing it of promoting racial discord in its reporting. The leaders claimed that the channel was deliberately spreading misinformation to create social division.
A representative of Headline Tripura remarked, “Our channel has survived every political attack, whether under the previous government or now. We stand firm in our commitment to fair, factual, and impartial journalism.”
As the conflict escalates, media circles and civil society in the state have expressed concern over the increasing political hostility toward press freedom in Tripura.
