Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury organised a press conference at the Secretariat on Friday afternoon and presented various issues discussed with the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to the journalists.
He said, “The state’s rail link with Bangladesh is likely to be operational by September. A detailed discussion was recently held with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi regarding the launch of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link.”
He added that the much awaited Agartala-Akhaura railway link project has been given top priority for completion of work.
Notably, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on April 19 and discussed the state’s proposals for railway services and infrastructure development in the state.
The Transport Minister said that all the proposals sent by state to the Ministry of Railways for the improvement of railway services have also informed the Union Railway Minister.
He said that he also requested the Union Railway Minister to consider all these issues in the discussion.
Minister Chowdhury further said that the Central Railway Minister has requested the DoNER minister to allocate an additional 150 crore rupees for the completion of the Agartala-Akhaura rail link.
He added, “The Agartala-Akhaura rail link project is the responsibility of the donor ministry. The DoNER Ministry will sanction this amount very soon.”
