Tripura cabinet bars private practice for AGMC and GB  doctors, announces 20% pay hike

Agartala, June 23: In a significant decision aimed at strengthening the public healthcare system, the Tripura Cabinet has decided that doctors serving at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB Pant Hospital) and Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) will no longer be allowed to engage in private practice.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.

According to the Cabinet decision, doctors who wish to continue private practice will have the option to resign from their government posts. The government has made it clear that adherence to the new directive will be mandatory for all concerned medical professionals.

The move is expected to ensure greater availability of doctors in government hospitals, improve patient care, and strengthen healthcare services for the public. Detailed guidelines regarding the implementation of the decision are expected to be issued by the Health Department in the coming days.
