Tripura CM lays foundation stone for 13-foot bronze statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today said that practicing the life philosophy of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee would inspire future generations with the values of honesty, duty, self-sacrifice and patriotism, ultimately contributing to the building of a strong and united nation. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Town Hall, the Chief Minister described him as a great patriot, eminent educationist, parliamentarian and visionary statesman. He said Dr. Mukherjee made remarkable contributions to education, society, culture and national life at a young age and remained steadfast in safeguarding the unity, integrity and national cohesion of the country.

Prior to the programme, Chief Minister Dr. Saha unveiled a plaque to lay the foundation stone for a 13-foot-high bronze statue of Dr. Mukherjee at the Town Hall premises and performed the Bhoomi Puja. He remarked that the statue represents not merely the beginning of a construction project but a tribute to the nation’s history and values. According to him, the monument will help future generations learn about Dr. Mukherjee’s life and ideals while serving as a lasting symbol of patriotism and national consciousness. The Chief Minister further said our country has many such statesmen who made great sacrifices for the nation but their lives have not been duly presented. Statesmen like Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deen Dayal Mukhopadhyay taught us how to serve the country. Taking note of their life philosophy Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the country forward.

Speaking on the occasion, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder termed the day historic and said Dr. Mukherjee’s philosophy would continue to inspire people to serve the nation with dedication and sacrifice. He said the late leader devoted his life to building an undivided India beyond the barriers of caste, religion and colour and urged everyone to work towards a united India inspired by his ideals. The Mayor announced that the bronze statue is expected to be completed within the next three to four months. He also revealed plans to establish a paperless civil hospital in Agartala’s Kashari patti area in the name of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

Among those present at the foundation stone-laying ceremony were MLA Dr. Abhishek Debroy, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Chairperson of the Women’s Commission Jharna Debbarma, Agartala Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta and several Corporators. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, delivered the welcome address at the commemorative programme, while Subrata Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee, also attended the event. As part of the celebrations, a documentary highlighting the life and contributions of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was screened, and a photo exhibition showcasing significant moments from his life was organised at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hall premises.
