Tripura: Poll official suspended for ‘defacing’ PM Modi’s photo

A delegation led by Education Minister Ratanlal Nath met with the Chief Electoral Officer Shri Kiran Gitte, IAS and demanded action against the officer for the incidence that took place under 40-Sabroom AC, South Tripura District regarding painting with the black ink on the PM face during the defacement activity on public and private properties.

It was alleged by the BJP that the sector officer of 40-Sabroom Assembly Constituency, Shri Ajay Das, Sector Officer, 40-Sabroom Assembly Constituency went to the shop of a person and covered the PM’s face with black ink on the poster of Prime Minister.

After receiving this complaint from the BJP, the Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura investigated the mater. The investigation shows that the sector officer did it illegally.

The Election Department gave him a show-cause notice. But the sector officer could not respond properly to the show-cause notice. Later on, the matter was enquired by the DM & Collector, South Tripura District and found that Shri Ajoy Das, Superintendent of Fisheries, Sector Officer 40-Sabroom Assembly Constituency was acted beyond the provision of Model Code of Conduct.

Thereafter, on going through the enquiry report and other circumstances, the DM & Collector, South Tripura District has been directed to put under suspension and process for disciplinary proceedings as per provision of relevant rule against Shri Ajoy Das, Sector Officer 40-Sabroom Assembly Constituency.

Ajay Das of Superintendent of Fisheries Department Sector Officer 40-Sabroom Assembly Constituency has been suspended from the service today as per the directions from the CEO Office.
