After being chosen as the brand ambassador of Tripura tourism, Sourav Ganguly, the renowned cricketer, expressed his discontent as efforts are being made to politicise his appointment.
Ganguly stated that whatever he does, it tends to be politicized. He said, “Why does everything get political? It is very disappointing.”
Ganguly mentioned examples of other celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Rishabh Pant, and MS Dhoni, who have contractual agreements with different states.
Following Sourav Ganguly’s appointment by the BJP-led Tripura government, the BJP in West Bengal accused the Trinamool Congress-led government for not recognising Ganguly’s contributions and demanded his appointment as the Sheriff of Kolkata.
This disagreement between the TMC and BJP regarding Ganguly is not a new development.
For instance, when cricketer Roger Binny replaced Ganguly as the BCCI President last year, the West Bengal CM and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over Ganguly’s removal.
The TMC alleged that the BJP was attempting to humiliate Ganguly because they were unsuccessful in recruiting him into their party with this ‘political vendetta’.
Ganguly stated that he always leads a straightforward life and his role in Tripura would involve promoting tourist destinations.
However, he expressed disappointment that everything, including his actions, tends to become political.
