North Tripura, Dec 19: In a significant breakthrough against militant activities, joint forces and police arrested an active cadre of the Tripura United National Front (TUNF) on Thursday. The arrested militant has been identified as Karnajoy Riang alias Latha.

North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai said that acting on a specific tip-off, a joint team of the TSR 13th Battalion and Damchhara police station conducted a raid and arrested Riang from a house at Kargil Tila area under Damchhara police station.

According to police sources, a case (No. 07/2025) was already registered against the accused at Bhangmun police station in Kanchanpur for his involvement in terrorist activities. Investigations revealed that the TUNF had earlier planned an attack on a police vehicle on the Jampui road in Kanchanpur on August 14 this year. Two persons were arrested earlier in connection with that incident.

The arrested militant is currently being interrogated at Kanchanpur police station, and further investigation is underway.
