Agartala, June 24 :Despite strict security measures along the international border, incidents of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh continue to occur. On Tuesday morning around 9 am, a Bangladeshi national was reportedly detained by local residents in the Chakbasta area of Konaban, under Madhupur police station.
According to local sources, the elderly man had crossed the border illegally before dawn. This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in the area. Locals alleged that illegal crossings from Bangladesh have been happening frequently, raising serious questions about border vigilance despite the presence of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The detained individual was handed over to the Madhupur police station after the locals filed a report. However, residents expressed frustration, claiming that police officials have been neglecting the issue by repeatedly stating they are “looking into it” without taking concrete action.
There is growing resentment among the local population over what they describe as administrative indifference towards the repeated incidents of infiltration, which they believe pose a threat to the area’s security.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
