Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to assess and review the ongoing development of Agartala’s transport system. The discussion focused on the city’s growing challenges, including increasing traffic congestion, rising population, limitations in road accessibility, and the need to modernize public transport.
A detailed presentation was reviewed on the proposed development of the corridor stretching from Battala Bazar and Gol Bazar to Netaji Chowk, a key route in Agartala’s urban mobility network. Officials also deliberated on a comprehensive mobility plan aimed at strengthening and streamlining the city’s transport infrastructure for the future.
The meeting, held at the War Room of TIFT, emphasized strategies to build a smoother, safer and more efficient transport system to meet the needs of Agartala’s residents.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also reviewed the works of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, Tripura under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
With the Government of India announcing the rollout of JJM 2.0 in the Union Budget, the State is awaiting detailed guidelines and funding provisions. Meanwhile, the DWS Department has been directed to begin preparations for JJM 2.0 and ensure source sustainability across all water supply schemes.
Officers have also been instructed to prepare an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) policy for drinking water sources and the assets created, ensuring they remain fully functional. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining the highest standards of quality in all works.
Additionally, the Water Resources Department, along with the DWS and Forest Departments, has been asked to coordinate efforts for rainwater conservation in Tripura using scientific methods and appropriate technology.
