Agartala, June 19: Despite the state government’s continued anti-drug campaign, concerns are mounting over the persistent flow of illegal narcotics into Tripura’s capital city, Agartala. Over the past few months, law enforcement agencies have recovered substantial quantities of banned drugs from various parts of the city during a series of raids and operations.
Police have conducted anti-drug drives in several locations, including the city centre, areas adjacent to Ujjayanta Palace, Jagannathbari Road, Shakuntala Road, and Krishnanagar, leading to multiple seizures of illegal substances. However, residents allege that the influence of drug networks remains strong and that the menace has not diminished significantly.
The growing availability of narcotics has reportedly led many young people towards addiction, with several cases of drug-related deaths also coming to light. While the state government has repeatedly reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, concerned citizens are questioning the effectiveness of the ongoing measures.
Public discussions have intensified regarding how illegal drugs continue to reach the heart of the capital despite regular enforcement drives. There is a growing demand for authorities to identify the sources of the contraband, trace the transportation routes, dismantle the networks involved in drug trafficking, and take stringent action against those responsible.
Citizens and social organizations have urged the administration to strengthen surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb the drug menace and protect the younger generation from its harmful effects.
