Agartala: CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury on Tuesday alleged that candidates were facing obstructions in filing nominations in different parts of Tripura ahead of the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a discussion meeting organised at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala to mark the 47th foundation day of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Chowdhury launched a sharp attack on the BJP.
He alleged that bulldozers had been stationed in front of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office in Mohanpur, while bricks had been piled up along the road leading to the SDM office in Jirania and Ranirbazar, allegedly creating obstacles for those seeking to file nomination papers.
Chowdhury further alleged that despite the presence of police and CRPF personnel, candidates were still not being provided with a conducive environment to submit their nominations.
He strongly criticised the BJP over the alleged incidents, raising concerns about the electoral environment and the ability of candidates to exercise their democratic rights.
