Kathalia, July 15: A man was found brutally murdered inside his residence at Kathalia Bhadrabari under Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala district, triggering panic among local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Uttam Nam. According to police, they received information about the incident at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, following which a team from Jatrapur Police Station rushed to the spot and began an investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that unidentified miscreants allegedly hacked Uttam Nam to death with sharp weapons inside his house. After committing the crime, the assailants are suspected to have locked the house from outside before fleeing the scene.

Police later opened the house, recovered the body and initiated the process of sending it for post-mortem examination.

The deceased is survived by two sons—elder son Utpal Nam and younger son Chayan Nam. Police are investigating their whereabouts at the time of the incident and are also recording statements of family members and other possible witnesses as part of the probe.

The motive behind the murder and the identity of those responsible remain unknown. Police officials said all possible angles are being thoroughly examined and that the exact reason behind the crime will be known only after the investigation progresses.
