Prayagraj witnessed a chaotic situation in the early hours of Wednesday as an overwhelming crowd gathered for the sacred ‘Amrit Snan’ on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’ at the Maha Kumbh. The massive influx of devotees led to a stampede-like scenario, resulting in multiple injuries, officials confirmed.
Reports indicate that at least 30 women sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at the central hospital set up in the Mela area.
The Uttar Pradesh government had anticipated around 10 crore pilgrims participating in the Maha Kumbh on this single day and had intensified security measures to manage the crowd. However, the sheer volume of attendees contributed to the challenging situation despite these preparations.
