Three Killed, Four Injured as Brick Kiln Chimney Collapses in Kamalpur

Kamalpur, Dec 18: A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the brick kiln in the Kamalpur sub-division when the long chimney of the kiln collapsed, killing three workers on the spot and injuring four others.

According to reports, after performing a puja at the brick kiln in the Halhali area, the kiln owner, Souvik Pal, set fire to the kiln with the help of workers. Shortly after the fire was lit, the chimney suddenly collapsed, trapping several workers beneath the debris.

Three workers — Subal Debnath (55) and Pinku Shil (37), both residents of West Halhali, and Anil Gautam, a resident of Uttar Pradesh — died at the spot. Four others sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The injured have been identified as Vidhu Sharma (45) and Santosh Gupta (45) from the Halhali Apreshkar area, and Harkis Chauhan (50) and Harkis Saroj (40), both residents of Jharkhand. Fire service personnel and ambulances rushed the injured and deceased to Bimal Sinha Memorial Hospital.

Doctors on duty referred all the injured, except Santosh Gupta, to GB Hospital in critical condition for advanced treatment.

In the wake of the tragic incident, MLA Manoj Kanti Deb demanded a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the chimney collapse.
