Youth Injured in BSF Firing on Tripura Border, Tension Grips Area

Tension prevailed in the Boxnagar border area of Tripura after a youth sustained serious injuries in a rubber bullet firing by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Monday night. The incident occurred near Gate No. 189 along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The injured youth has been identified as Rezaul Hossain. According to sources, the incident took place around 9 PM when Rezaul and a group of accomplices were allegedly attempting to smuggle clothes into Bangladesh through an unauthorized route near the border gate.

On spotting the movement, BSF jawans on duty tried to intercept them. In response, the smugglers reportedly began pelting stones and bricks at the security personnel. As the situation escalated, the BSF personnel fired rubber bullets in self-defense.

Rezaul was struck by a rubber bullet and collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely. Locals and family members rushed to his aid and initially took him to the Boxnagar Social Health Centre. After receiving preliminary treatment, he was referred to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala due to the severity of his injuries.

It has been reported that he suffered multiple injuries on different parts of his body from the rubber bullets. Following the incident, an atmosphere of tension spread across the surrounding areas, with security forces maintaining strict vigil along the border to prevent any further untoward incidents.

Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
