Israel Agrees to US-Proposed Ceasefire as Iran Strikes US Base in Qatar

In a significant development in the ongoing conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump. The truce comes after intense fighting between Israel and Iran, with the United States urging both nations to observe restraint.

The announcement followed a deadly Iranian missile barrage targeting Israel, which killed at least four people in the southern city of Beersheba. The escalation came amid Israel’s continued military operations against Iran since June 13.

Despite Israel’s acceptance of the ceasefire, Iranian officials expressed skepticism. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran had not formally agreed to a ceasefire, but indicated that Iranian forces would halt retaliatory strikes if Israel ceased its “illegal aggression” by 4:00 AM local time (00:30 GMT).

In a related escalation, Iran launched a series of missiles at a US military installation in Qatar on Monday evening. The targeted facility, Al-Udeid Air Base, houses American troops and plays a central role in US military operations in the region. The strike was in retaliation for US attacks on Iranian nuclear sites a day earlier.

Since the outbreak of hostilities on June 13, Iran claims that over 400 people, including 13 children, have been killed and at least 3,056 others injured due to Israeli airstrikes and military operations. In Israel, at least 24 people have reportedly been killed by Iranian missile attacks.

As of now, the situation remains tense, with international observers closely monitoring whether both sides will honor the ceasefire terms.
