Kamalpur, Sept 18: In a significant political development, 145 voters from different parties joined the Congress at the Surma Assembly under Kamalpur sub-division on Thursday.
According to reports, one family from the BJP, three families from the CPI(M), and one family from the Tipra Motha party shifted allegiance to the Congress.
The new members were welcomed into the party by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha, AICC in-charge of Tripura Christopher Tilak, senior Congress leader from Dhalai district Manik Dev, and Surma Block Congress president Ratan Chand.
Party leaders said the development reflects growing public discontent with the ruling Party and a renewed confidence in the Congress.
