A fresh debate has erupted over the sources of income of political parties in the country following the publication of the latest audit report by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

According to the report for the financial year 2024–25, questions are now being raised regarding the financial accounts of several major political parties.

The opposition has particularly raised concerns over the income details of the Indian National Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Following the release of the report, political circles have witnessed intense discussions and debates regarding the sources of party funding.

Special attention has been drawn to the finances of the CPI(M), with discussions focusing on how the party’s treasury reportedly receives hundreds of crores of rupees every year.

The issue has sparked renewed debate on transparency and accountability in the funding of political parties across the country.
