Agartala, March 18: Bipin Debbarma, General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura Pradesh, has written to the State Election Commission urging a rescheduling of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
In his letter addressed to the State Election Commissioner, Debbarma highlighted that the scheduled poll date of April 13 coincides with Garia Puja, one of the most significant traditional festivals of Tripura’s indigenous communities.
He stated that Garia Puja holds deep cultural and religious importance, with people actively participating in rituals, festivities, and community gatherings throughout the day.
Conducting elections on the same date, he noted, could affect voter participation and cause inconvenience to a large section of the electorate.
Debbarma has therefore requested the Commission to consider rescheduling the poll date to a more suitable day that does not clash with the festival, ensuring maximum voter turnout and upholding the spirit of free and fair elections.
He expressed hope that the Election Commission would take the matter into consideration in the larger interest of the people of Tripura.
