Silchar, Feb 3: In a major breakthrough in its ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Cachar district police in Assam seized a large consignment of heroin valued at approximately ₹5 crore during a raid in Silchar.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at MHC Lane in Meherpur area under Silchar Police Station. During the operation, officials recovered 947 grams of heroin concealed in 85 soap boxes, according to police sources.
In connection with the seizure, one person identified as Shamim Ahmed, a resident of Patharkandi in Karimganj district, has been arrested.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband.
