Agartala, May 21: Serious questions are being raised about the quality of construction of the MLA hostel in Tripura’s capital, Agartala, after severe water leakage was reported — barely two years after its inauguration.
Built at a cost of Rs 52.15 crore, the hostel was meant to provide accommodation for the state’s elected representatives. However, BJP MLA Pramod Reang reported that his suite was flooded following heavy rain, owing to water leakage from the terrace.
Describing the situation as both inconvenient and alarming, Reang expressed concern over the hostel’s construction quality. He alleged that substandard materials were used in the building, and warned that the condition could worsen with the approaching monsoon.
“All of us MLAs moved into the hostel in 2023. If this is the condition within just two years, one can only imagine how it will deteriorate in the future when new legislators move in,” said the Shantibazar MLA.
Authorities are yet to respond to the allegations.
