A moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook parts of Bangladesh early Friday. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor’s epicentre was situated around 14 kilometres west-southwest of Narsingdi.
The quake struck at 04:38:26 UTC, which corresponds to 10:08:26 AM Indian Standard Time, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
Residents in nearby areas reported feeling strong vibrations. Authorities have begun assessing the region to determine the extent of any damage and to monitor the possibility of aftershocks.
