Karnataka secured a 29-run victory over Tripura in their Ranji Trophy Group-C match at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium.
Chasing a target of 193, Tripura, starting from an overnight score of 59 for three, was bowled out for 163. The experienced Sudip Chatterjee’s resilient innings of 82 (144 balls, 10×4) was not adequately supported by other key players, including Ganesh Satish (22), Wriddhiman Saha (run out for 0), and Bikramjit Debnath (9).
Despite a challenging morning session for batting, Chatterjee and Ganesh provided hope, adding 30 runs before speedster Vidwath Kaverappa (4/44) made crucial breakthroughs, leading to Tripura’s downfall at 103 for six.
The victory earned Karnataka six points, revitalizing their campaign after subpar performances against Gujarat and Goa.
Fellow pacer V. Vyshak then dismissed Mura Singh and Parvez Sultan, reducing Tripura to 133 for eight. Kaverappa’s removal of Rana Datta at 138 for nine made the outcome evident.
Despite Tripura’s effort, adding 25 runs with Chatterjee and Abhijit Sarkar, R. Samarth’s run-out of Chatterjee sealed the victory.
Karnataka coach P.V. Shashikanth expressed confidence in the win, highlighting the effectiveness of their three pacers.
