Dharmanagar, June 18: Incidents of theft and robbery are on the rise in various parts of North Tripura district, causing panic among residents. On Tuesday night alone, theft and robbery cases were reported from at least three different locations within the Dharmanagar subdivision.
In a fresh incident, a group of armed robbers raided the house of one Minti Devi, located adjacent to the railway warehouse in Ward No. 4 of Purba Fulbari under the Churaibari police station area, late on Wednesday night. The miscreants, with black cloths tied around their faces and sharp knives in hand, forcibly entered the house by breaking the boundary wall and lock.
The robbers looted valuables worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh, including ₹30,000 in cash, gold pendants, chains, silver ornaments, expensive clothes, and bed sheets. Terrified by the sudden attack, the family members were unable to raise an alarm.
Later, the victim’s family lodged a written complaint with the Churaibari police station. Continuous incidents of theft and robbery in the North district have left local residents in fear and deprived of sleep, as concerns over safety and law and order continue to grow.
Residents have urged the administration and police authorities to strengthen night patrolling and take strict action against the culprits to restore normalcy in the area.
