In Tripura’s Gomati district, a street artist faced public heckling and alleged threats while performing the popular song ‘Allah Ke Bande’ within a temple premises, leading to widespread political and social condemnation.
The performer, Shanu Malakar — a folk singer known for his street performances — was confronted by a man identifying himself as a “rashtravadi” (nationalist), who objected to the mention of “Allah” in the song, claiming it was inappropriate in a Hindu religious space.
The incident has since drawn strong criticism from CPI(M) leaders in the state, who have called for prompt administrative action against the individual involved. Party representatives highlighted the importance of safeguarding artistic freedom and maintaining communal harmony in the region.
