Agartala, June 1 — The discovery of a body floating in a flooded street in the Jackson Gate area of Agartala on Saturday evening has intensified concerns over the city’s growing urban flooding crisis, as heavy rains continue to batter Tripura.
According to local residents, the body was seen drifting in the waterlogged roadway and the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) was immediately notified. Responding swiftly, a team from the ERSS, along with personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), reached the location to recover the body.
“We were patrolling the Pratapgarh area when an urgent wireless message came from the 112 ERSS control room, directing us to proceed to Jackson Gate,” recounted TSR jawan Kamraj Sarkar. “Mobile networks were down due to the bad weather, so we relied on wireless communication to coordinate our response.”
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution and avoid venturing into waterlogged zones as the state continues to grapple with heavy monsoon rainfall.
